Decorated with red balls and canes, the half-a-century old pine tree planted by former Mayor Alfonso Tabora was lighted with LED lights around 6 p.m. last Thursday despite an early evening downpour.
Lighting and decorating of the tree alone cost the City Government close to P400,000, while more than a million pesos were spent by the city on decorations and lights scattered all over the city’s Central Business District.
Representative Bernardo Vergara also joined the lighting of Burnham Park, of which the funding worth P2 million came from the lawmaker’s priority development assistance fund.
Also, a big electronic LED-sign of “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” was placed in People’s Park for residents and tourists to enjoy, Councilor Elmer Datuin said.
The City Government, meanwhile, scheduled activities like chorale competitions, balikbayan homecoming activities, the annual Silahis ng Pasko at Diwa ng Pasko, among others. (SunStar / by JM Agreda)
