New Bonifacio Elementary School building enaugurated

Japan’s Nagoya Honmaru Lions Club (NHLC) and Baguio Pines City Lions Club (BPCLC) formally inaugurated and turned over a new school building to the Bonifacio Elementary School (BES) here last week.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan together with officials of NHLC led by President Sotaro Nishioka, the BPCPLC led by Reynaldo Dacones and BES principal Rosie Beel Cervantes inaugurated the two-storey school building and witnessed by students and faculty of the school and barangay officials.

Dacones disclosed that the new school building is a joint project of the two Lions Club in celebration of their 35th year anniversary this 2011 and 33 year partnership between the clubs.

The building amounted to at least 160,000 US dollars from the two clubs and additional funding from the Lions Club Foundation International which they named the building after.

The school building is composed of a two regular classrooms with comfort rooms and water facilities on the first floor and a Home Economic facility on the second floor.

Nishioka said that the school building is the ninth project that they have done together with the BPCLC in the city of Baguio. He said their past projects helped the community and he expressed hope that the school building will help the young generations which he said are the future of the nation.

Nishioka asked the school’s students and faculty members to take good care of the school so that it would be used by the next generation of students.

Domogan, in his message, described the project as a celebration of brotherhood, generosity and goodwill, and commitment. He added that the project is a collaboration and teamwork under which the foundation of the building was built.

“Constructing a school building is giving a chance to acquire knowledge and wisdom necessary for them to advance in life,” the mayor stressed.

“A home where children can develop good character, sound principles and positive values that will equip and arm them to won their future battles in life,” he added.

Cervantes wholeheartedly thanked the Lions Club for the school building which she said will be a great help for the students of the school. She also added that the school is looking forward to another project from the Lions Club that will benefit more students.

Meanwhile, BPCLC past president PSSupt. Engelbert Soriano thanked the Japanese Lions Club for despite the powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit their country earlier this year, they still rendered full support to the project. - (PIA / by Redjie Cawis)
