Fred Puckett led Camp John Hay with a 32 for the team’s 115 at their home course for a three-day total of 333, increasing their lead to 21 over Maxima Komatsu to virtually clinch the the Fil Championship title for the second straight year.

With a pair of 28s from Clyde Cabreros and Park Jun Won and the 27 of Federico Mandapat, Jr., the team has all but wrapped up the title.

“It’s not yet over. We have a round to go and we can only say that we won when the last player holes out on the last day,” said Mandapat, the only lawyer who counted after Rudy Lockey limped home with a 26 and did not count in the five-to-play, four- to-count tournament backed by Toyota, Pacsports, Illy, Empire and Wilson.

“We will just have to play our game and hopefully Fred (Puckett) will play a better game and carry the team since he is a candidate for the individual medal,” said the retired police general Cabreros.

Puckett leads in the individual race with 93 points, powered by his even-par 36 on Day 2 at the BCC course.

Maxima Komatsu team captain Junie Fontanilla scored a 21 and counted for the team’s 108 at the longer CJH course.

Poch Hernandez led the former champions with 32 points. Florene delos Santos had a 28, Bong Sison had a 27, while Dennis Cabalfin merely made 20 and did not count. They have a three day total of 312.

With a day left, Maxima Komatsu appears to have raised the white flag as it tries to stave off Philippine Navy from wresting second place.

Philippine Navy actually got 101 for 299 on the pair of 26s from Francisco Sumulong and Art Alabanza, a 25 from Emil Alviar and 24 from Teodoro Runes.
