“The stage is set and we are ready,” said Fil-Am golf chairman Antony de Leon as the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay golf courses are to accommodate the players for the biggest golfing event in the country.

The par-61 BCC course and the par-69 CJH layout will see players starting Wednesday for the practice rounds in what could be one of the world’s biggest amateur golf tournament.

Practice rounds will be until Friday when the opening cocktails will be take place and with CJH as host.

“We are ready and we expect 1,260 players and this could grow with the alternates on the side,” said vice-chair Shin Paul Chan.

Tournament proper for the senior’s side and flights F, G and H in the regular games will start Saturday until December 1 where Camp John Hay is also defending in the top Fil Championship flight.

CJH, led by Bong Mandapat, Nelson Eslao and Fred Puckett are returning to defend.

This year’s Fil-Am is expected to be the biggest ever with an expected 10 percent increase in attendance, said Chan during a press conference recently.

A Toyota Vios will be the prize for a hole in one at the par 69 CJH course’s 18th hole, while the Baguio Country Club will have the 10th hole.

It is yet the most lucrative prize in the country’s biggest amateur golf tournament in years as the Fil-Am committee expects a 10 percent increase from the 1,100 entries last year.

Both courses are undergoing rehab works in time for the Fil-Am. Both clubs were host to several golf tourneys recently, wherein hundreds played. - (Manila Standard Today)
