LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA)-- The month-long Adivay celebration this November jumpstarts the province’s tourism industry which is still on its infancy stage, according to Governor Nestor Fongwan.

Fongwan said the Founding Anniversary of the province through Adivay is a vehicle to boost the selling of the province in the field of tourism showcasing what the 13 towns have to offer.

“We need to do this,” he said. “We would like people to come to the province and help (in promoting tourism) through the celebration of Adivay,” Fongwan stressed.

Most of the activities according to Fongwan are centered on the popularization and promotions of tourism industry as he calls on the support of the Department of Tourism.

The province is already popular in terms of its mining industry, agriculture particularly its temperate vegetables, and hydropower, but hand in hand such industries may also be considered as tourist attractions, he said.

The tourism industry which has great potential is still lagging behind and vital in triggering the economy of the province, according to Fongwan.

In terms of economical gains, Vice Governor Crescencio Pacalso admitted that all those who are participating in the celebrations had earlier been preparing such as those from the municipalities particularly the farmers and entrepreneurs who are gaining in such event.

In showcasing the 13 towns, this is also an opportunity among bulk buyers or agents who spot and market potential products.

Through the Adivay, people will know the tourist destinations and related activities in various towns of the province which pretty sure would soon be part of the itinerary of tourists in visiting the Cordillera region, Fongwan said.

Meanwhile, to boost tourism in the province, provision of infrastructure support such as comfort rooms and community police assistance centers for security measures for the convenience of tourists are now in the pipeline while others were already established, according to Fongwan.

View decks together with Pasalubong center like that in Ambassador, Tublay has been installed while there are plans up putting up in strategic locations, he said.
