Provincial director Police Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad said the Benguet Mounted Tourist Police will form part of the contingent of the Police Provincial Office who will be participating in the founding anniversary celebrations through Adivay. They will be joining in the Parade and Tourism Day on November 19, 2011.

Lusad said the mounted tourist police is part of the national Top Cop program aimed to increase the number of tourist protection units and beef up the operational capability of police units deployed in premier tourist destinations in the country.

A number of the policemen who are part of the Tourist Police project use their own horses while others are procured through the local government unit of Kabayan. There is a pending request for seven more horses for the province, according to Lusad.

As can be recalled, the project was first launched this year in the town of Kabayan to secure visiting tourists and locals alike.

Meanwhile, Lusad assured a favorable peace and order situation during the celebration.

Fifty policemen from the provincial headquarters will augment the force of the town’s police station where majority of the activities are conducted.

Meanwhile, more than 25 pigs and two cows will be butchered as part of the ritual of thanksgiving for the “Adivay” festival grand canao on November 19 at the Benguet Sports Center in Wangal.

Representatives of the 13 municipalities will meet and celebrate and dance the “tayao” in accompaniment of native instruments like the “ganza” and “solibao” thanking “Kabunian” (God) for all the blessings the province is getting.

Kenjie Ameda of Kabayan and Lora Cris Almoza of Itogon, who are the Mr and Ms Adivay 2011, will also be presented during the event.

Oriental Mindoro Gov. Alfonso Umali and League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) president will be the guest of honor and speaker during the event. - (PIA / by Susan Aro & Joseph Zambrano)
