The mayor however is poised to impose a total ban on firecrackers as the city council last Monday left the discretion to the city executive as per Ordinance No. 53 series of 2009.

He said to make the ban effective, the city will employ measure to avoid entry of prohibited firecrackers to the city by enforcing checkpoints.

The mayor however appealed to the concerned agencies to impose a nationwide ban on pyrotechnic devices.

“I hope the ban will be done nationwide to make it effective so I am calling on the Department of Health, the Department of Interior and Local Government and other local government units to unite on this end,” the mayor said.

The firecracker ban aims to prevent fireworks-related injuries and the pollution caused by these explosives.
