Transport sector chief questions traffic scheme

HAVE our cops turned lazy that suddenly they direct traffic to SM?

This was the question posed by transport sector head and 1-Utak Baguio chair Jonie Itliong, adding his group will ask Baguio City to remove the one-way traffic scheme prevailing on roads.

“All roads are leading to SM only and this is causing humongous traffic at the top of Session road,” Itliong said.

He said it is about time to restudy the traffic scheme.

“Isn’t the road leading to SM a public road? Why has it turned into a private road cum driveway? Why does the SM management only allow taxicabs to enter the complex? Can’t jeeps be allowed as well since there are passengers also wanting to stop at SM?” Itliong asked.

Itliong said he already talked to the mall giant management regarding this concern but no action was ever made, adding this was the same recommendation given by transport officials who often come to Baguio.

He also said the transport group is meeting with the Traffic and Transport Management Committee to discuss traffic schemes in preparation for the influx of tourists to the city during the holidays. (SunStar / by Richard Valdez)
