Horse riding cops effective

(SunStar) - Policemen using horses in their regular mobile patrols have proven over a year to be effective in their peacekeeping tasks in mountainous areas in Benguet frequented by local and foreign tourists.

This assessment was made by Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan who said the province is set to contribute in the purchase of at least seven additional horses for the special police team known as the “mounted cops.”

Among those patrolled by the mounted cops are Kabayan and Mankayan towns, especially within eco-tourism areas of Mount Pulag and other mountains in the area.

Fongwan said the mounted cops operation is seen to be adopted in other areas of the province, especially since other towns are now developing their own eco-tourism programs like the municipality of Bokod whose mountain ranges are touted to be picturesque as those in Colorado, U.S.A.
