by Joseph B. Zambrano

(PIA) - The annual Christmas Ed Kapangan, which aims to promote eco-tourism and the rich culture and tradition of the municipality, is scheduled on December 10 to 11.

The activity is ideal for families who like to bond with relatives and friends.

It includes a trip to the various tourist destinations where one can stay for overnight camping and watch cultural presentations and experience the beauty of nature.

Kapangan Mayor Robert Canuto said the first leg will be a guided tour to the more than two hectares of 56 different varieties of anthurium.

To view the majestic beauty of the municipality, a Bulalakao Mountain hike will also be held, then experience overnight camping at the Balacbac Elementary School grounds mini park.

Visitors will witness a cañao and iwik in a wat-wat dinner, bonfire with cultural presentation, grand march at night time and a Christmas exchange of gifts.

The second day will start with a “hataw” to warm up campers for another day of exciting activities.

A trek to the Obellen rice terraces to witness and participate in the pounding of rice for “chu-om” follows. Then spelunking to Bulalakao cave, one the beautiful caves of Kapangan.

Visitors can try swimming with the Kapangan muscle men, and then go fishing in the indigenous way using “bani-it” and “gobo” at the Amburayan River. A “kamayan” lunch highlights the two day activities.
