“We are still waiting for the details of the plans of the City Government because as of now, there are no formal talks yet,” Camantiles admitted.

He added municipal officials, city officials, Benguet Corporation and residents of the nearby barangays which will be affected need to sit down and discuss the matter before coming up with a decision.

“We will inspect if conditions are favorable,” stated Camantiles when asked if he will approve the proposal.

He added they will conduct a public consultation to get the side of their constituency.

Domogan told reporters he will take the responsibility to talk first to the officials of Benguet Corporation on the plans of the City Government.

The problem on the transfer area of garbage just popped up when residents of Barangay Odiao, Rosario, La Union protested against the dumping activity of the City Government.

Protesters complained on the intolerable foul smell of the garbage. They also feared for their health and the effects of the garbage to the environment.

At present, ProTech Machineries is working on the hauling of the garbage stocked in Irisan dumpsite. However, they are also in dilemma with Domogan on where to haul the non-biodegradable garbage. - (SunStar / by Rubyloida Bitog)
