The newly installed chief said he will wait for the official papers before giving comments about the case.

“I have not received any papers yet,” he said Monday morning.

Lawyer Noe Villanueva filed Tuesday the formal motion to suspend the entire council and set a hearing on Friday.

Dang-o assumed office early this month as OIC of the DILG-Benguet and said the suspension of La Trinidad lawmakers is one of the big cases the office will be handling. “This is the first in the country as far as I know.”

A motion to suspend Vice Mayor Romeo Salda and Councilors Francis Lee, Jim Botiwey, Henry Kipas, Arthur Shontogan, Roderick Awingan, Horacio Ramos Jr., Estrella Adeban, Von Ryan Tauli and Robert Namoro is now before local courts as the officialdom awaits the next legal move.

Dang-o said as soon as he gets a copy of the official papers, he will formally present them to the office of La Trinidad Mayor Greg Abalos, then to the local council.

Dang-o said a previous case in Apayao also suspended the entire barangay council, but village officials subsequently resigned from their posts, making the decision of succession easy.

“This is a different case, this is the whole council.”

The entire council faces suspension for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act where all of them pleaded not guilty earlier before Regional Trail Court Judge Danilo Camacho.

Villanueva said the local council is given three days to submit their reply to the suspension. - (SunStar / by Ma. Elena Catajan)
