The town council passed ordinance 195, series of 2011, which is known as water quality monitoring ordinance during its recent session. The municipality now recognized its vital role in the promotion of the health and safety of its inhabitants.

The ordinance aims to monitor the water quality circulating in town for safe human consumption.

It requires bacterial water analysis to estimate the numbers of bacteria present and to find out what these bacteria are. This method will draw inferences about the suitability of the water usage. It will also detect if the water is safe for human consumption.

The ordinance mandates the municipality through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources to conduct initial environment survey of water sources.

“The municipal health office should prepare a water quality baseline record which contains the result of the water analysis of the water sources,” reads the ordinance.

Apart from these investigations, the municipality is also tasked to conduct a periodic bacteriological analysis and physio–chemical examination of water sources in Tuba.

Samples of water will also be sent to the Department of Science and Technology to ensure the safety of the residents who are the consumers.

However, while the town wants safe water, Mayor Florencio Bentrez does not want to support the Writ of Kalikasan filed by Representative Ronald Cosalan against Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

“We don’t want to destroy our good relationship with the City Government. That is why if this (garbage) problem could be solved in a lower level, so let it be. Hindi na kailangan paabutin pa sa taas,” Bentrez said.

They are optimistic that the city will fulfill its promise and follow the agreed arrangement. (SunStar / by Rubyloida Bitog)
