Representative Bernardo Vergara said the upgrade of the dumpsite will hopefully solve the city’s garbage problem.

According to Baguio City Engineers Office head Leo Bernardez, the city tapped the leading universities in the city to do the structural design of the new retaining wall.

The engineering departments of the Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Baguio and the University of the Cordilleras are now finalizing the design of the new structure, which is expected to be stronger, Bernardez said.

SLU College of Engineering and Architecture Dean Bonifacio dela Peña said the new design will be better and assured it could withstand any calamity.

Dela Peña said the retaining wall will be grouted with cement and the top would have a clay cover. Canals will also be placed which will allow water to pass during heavy rains. - (SunStar / by Redjie Cawis)
