Itogon, through the leadership of Mayor Oscar Camantiles, does not just celebrate its birthday but also promotes its tourism industry this December.

The town’s 111th anniversary started last December 2, with the environmental forum geared towards information, education campaign on Republic Act 9003 known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
There was also a mass bloodletting activity held last December 6 at the municipal gymnasium. On–the–spot drawing contest was also conducted last December 9 at the same venue.
On December 12, the search for Ms. Itogon pre-pageant was held at the municipal gymnasium, which was followed by the Ms. Lady Itogon Day Care the following day.
A photo exhibit and traditional rites were also staged and performed last Tuesday at the municipal gym.
The grand parade was held Thursday, followed by the Eucharistic celebration, agro–industrial trade fair, exhibit, Kintoman festival, and Overseas Filipino workers recognition day and municipal employees award ceremony.
“The main highlights of our celebration are the Kintoman and the Balitok festivals. In the Kintoman festival, indigenous red rice for rituals were presented while in the Balitok festival, it featured the ‘one town, one product’ of our municipality which is the gold,” Camantiles said.
He added they aim to increase the gold production from the town and encourage the residents to plant more on the indigenous red rice because the species is an endangered variety of rice which should be preserved.
“We are not only celebrating our foundation day but we also wanted to promote our tourism part. And we wish for the increase of our tourists arrivals this coming year,” Camantiles said.
The town’s celebration will continue today, Friday, dubbed as the sports day, where a 3K fun run from twin-rivers going to the municipal gymnasium and will start at 6 a.m.
Other upcoming activities up to December 18 are battle of the bands, Balitok Festival, cheer dance competition, Investor’s night, barangay day with cañao, coronation night of Ms. Itogon and the Dongba ni Kavajo. (SunStar / by Rubyloida Bitog)
