Domogan said the site is now a transfer and sorting area for non-biodegradable garbage, which is shipped to the Capas, Tarlac Engineered Sanitary Landfill (ESL), while the biodegradables are fed into Environmental Recycling System.
A petition seeking total abandonment and conversion of erstwhile Irisan garbage dumpsite into a green mound was already filed. Copies of the petition were already distributed to City Hall officials last December 14.
The petitioners include Benguet Representative Ronald Cosalan; members of the Benguet Provincial Board Johnny Waguis, Leonardo Taganas, Pedro Buyagao, Mike Bunnol, Erlinda Soriano, Elisa Mariano, and Hilario Palos; Aringay, La Union vice mayor Eric Sibuma and members of the Aringay council.
The respondents: The City Government of Baguio and the City Solid Waste Management Board (CSWMB) represented by Domogan; Domogan in his capacity as mayor of Baguio; vice mayor Daniel Farinas, members of the Baguio Council; City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) chief Cordelia Lacsamana; and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The petition takes root from the August 27 trash slide caused by Typhoon Mina that claimed lives of six residents along Asin Road. (SunStar / by Isagani Liporada)
