Marijuana worth P9M burned on-site in Benguet

About P9,285,600.00 worth of marijuana had been uprooted and burned on-site in an eradication operation in four sitios at Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet recently.

The operating units from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR), Police Regional Office – Cordillera, Military Intelligence Group – 1, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group conducted the joint operation from November 30 to December 2.

Overall, 38,000 full-grown cannabis plants and 42,140 cannabis seedlings with Dangerous Drugs Board value of P7.6 million and P1,685,600.00, respectively, had been uprooted and burned on-site during the three-day marijuana eradication operation in 18 plantations, measuring an aggregate land area of 9,665 square meters, all located in barangay Tacadang.

The anti-narcotic operatives also conducted dialogues with barangay residents disseminated information on ill effects of marijuana use, legal implications of marijuana production and trading, participation of the community in the enforcement of the drug law and other related issues.

From January 1, 2011 until this operation, there had been 15 marijuana eradication operations carried out by government troops in the Cordillera Region resulting in the destruction of 1,634,148 full-grown cannabis plants, 858,000 cannabis seedlings, 333,641.50 grams cannabis dried leaf, 48 kilos cannabis stalk, 60 kilos cannabis brick, 400 pieces of cannabis fruiting top and three kilos cannabis seed, and arrest of one marijuana cultivator.

Five of the 15 eradications were effected in Kibungan, Benguet; three each in Bakun, Benguet; Tabuk City, Kalinga; and Kapangan, Benguet and one in Tinoc, Ifugao. - (PIA)
