“This year’s jamborette has the highest number of participants in the history of provincial jamborette and so far the hardest to control,” said Ms Marie Glo Dawagui, Council Scout Executive of Benguet.
The jamborette enables interaction among scouts with common interests and concerns with the aim to strengthen the practice of daily good turns as a means of instilling sense of social responsibility, emphasize appreciation of environment and natural resources, enhance scouts skills and knowledge in scout craft geared towards growth and development, foster camaraderie and understanding among scouts through meaningful and challenging physical conceptual activities.
“To our dear scouts, our theme “Scouts: Building Tomorrow Today” reminds us of one thing, readiness. Our motto Laging Handa invites us, scouts and non scouts alike to prepare for the future by exploring and learning from the wisdom of the present, the today. It is our humble conviction that the experiences and trainings we received from our scout exposures shall surely mold us not only to be good leaders but better person as well,” said Mayor Oscar M. Camantiles.
“It is our hope that these three days scouting experience and exposure would not end at the four corners of our camp site but rather resounds to our respective homes, schools and in our communities. The municipality takes pride in hosting this historic and extraordinary event as it enfolds to showcase its eco-tourism adventures and boost its small enterprise projects as well,” Camantiles added.
On-site activities were conducted during the jamborette which includes skills development activities that highlighted learning through hands-on lecture and demonstration using native and art materials, creating nature craft, sand art painting, stone art and crafts, leather craft, wood works and painting.
“Scouting is very much alive in the Province of Benguet evidenced by the high number of participants,” said Vice Governor Cresencio C. Pacalso during the opening program. “Some officials today have become leaders after becoming boy scouts during their younger years like our Vice President, Jejomar Binay. There are a lot of opportunities to be learned in this scouting and make most out it,” he added. He also said that the scouts were brought closer to nature considering that the venue of the camping was along the Agno River.
On the other hand, Dalupirip Punong Barangay Ramon L. Carino thanked the Boy Scout of the Philippines Benguet Council for holding the 41st Council Scout Jamborette in their barangay. “This is a historic event in our barangay considering that this happens once in a while in a community,” Carino said. – (Municipality of Itogon / by Danny J.
